ResidentEvaluation X-press is an electronic evaluation process created by the LSU New Orleans OBGYN Residency Program for evaluating resident surgical competency.  In 2012, this new and innovative system replaced the paper evaluation process previously utilized by the program.  

 

A portable electronic method of providing instructional feedback and recording an evaluation of resident competency immediately following a surgical procedure has not previously been documented.

 

Resident Evaluation X-press is a unique electronic format that documents resident competency and encourages verbal communication between the faculty member and the resident immediately following operative procedures.

 

The Microsoft tag® system and Survey Monkey® platform are linked by a 2-D QR code designed using Microsoft QR code generator.  Each resident is given a unique code (TAG) embedded onto an ID card. An evaluation form is attached to each resident’s file in Survey Monkey.  After an operation, the supervising faculty scans the resident’s TAG with a smart phone and completes the brief evaluation on the smart phone screen.  Each point of the evaluation is reviewed with the resident, and the evaluation is closed and automatically submitted electronically to the resident’s educational file.
